I had a wonderful time in Blake’s workshops. He made it playful, interesting, connecting, open for everyone, challenging and so funny. Most importantly, I finally had the opportunity to reflect on many things about social dancing. I had been thinking about this stuff almost alone until now, and I was so happy to finally get it “for real.” I had been looking for this kind of dance workshop for a very long time.

Microfusion Taster (19:00-20:00)
Join us to learn (or refresh) the basics of microfusion: a subtle and intimate style of fusion dancing in which you may not lift your feet for an entire song.

Workshop #1: Connection and Attention (12:00-14:00)
What do we mean when we talk about “connection” in dance? How can we prioritize connection instead of worrying about looking good or “performance?” Join this workshop for a series of exercises that will focus your attention, help you see your dance partners more deeply, and create playful, magic moments.
Was bedeutet “Connection” beim Tanz? Wie können wir der Verbindung zwischen den Tanzpartnern mehr Aufmerksamkeit schenken statt “gut auszusehen” oder zu “performen”? Wir machen eine Reihe von Übungen, die dir helfen werden, deine Aufmerksamkeit auf deine:n Tanzpartner:in und eure Verbindung zu fokussieren – schafft zusammen verspielte und magische Momente im Tanz.

Workshop #2: The Dance Before the Dance (15:00-17:00)
Beginning a dance with the right mindset can make all the difference. In this workshop we’ll dive into the nitty-gritty of what happens before we ever take a single step with a new partner, including music awareness, body language, partner choice, role determination, and the initial embrace.
Einen Tanz mit der richtigen Einstellung zu beginnen, kann schon den Unterschied ausmachen. In diesem Workshop werden wir uns zusammen anschauen, was alles passiert, bevor wir den ersten Schritt mit einem:r neuen Tanzpartner:in machen – dazu gehört: Musikbewusstsein, Körpersprache, Partnerwahl, Tanzrollenaufteilung und die erste Umarmung.

Instructor Bio
Blake Boles creates immersive travel programs and interactive workshops for young people in North America and beyond. He loves dancing fusion and tango, DJs at fusion weekends, and thinks constantly about “connection.” This workshop series previously took place in Freiburg in December 2023.
