In 2023 I’m offering up to a year of free, one-on-one mentorship for a handful of young people.
This is an opportunity for teens and young adults (ages 14-20) who are…
- self-directed: currently taking ownership of their lives and learning, without full-time conventional work/school
- dreaming big: already scheming a big project/adventure for 2023
- seeking mentorship: excited to receive guidance and stick with it, long-term
- reliable communicators: good at checking and responding to emails/messages
While I’ve done paid coaching for a long time, I’m running this experiment because:
- I genuinely enjoy mentoring, and I’m always looking for ways to improve
- I want to supplement my shorter-term youth work (workshops, camps, travel programs) with longer-term experiences
- I would like to write publicly about both (1) my experience as a mentor and (2) my mentee’s various challenges, struggles, and victories
What it involves:
- Weekly check-ins (email + text/voice messages)
- Monthly big-picture check-ins (voice or video call)
- Keeping a personal journal about our mentorship sessions, so we can compare/contrast notes
- Giving me permission to write publicly about our mentorship process (within agreed-upon privacy boundaries)
If you’re interested:
- Email me before December 25th 2022 and tell me about your situation, what you’re working to / hoping to achieve (over what period of time?), and how you envision mentorship working for you. Please mention your familiarity with my work/philosophy (via books, podcasts, Unschool Adventures, etc.) and why you think we are a good match.
- Own the conversation. The young person seeking mentorship should be the one communicating with me. While parents may pass this opportunity along, I won’t consider mentorship requests initiated (or clearly pushed) by parents.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
